My apologies!

I would just like to say that I am sorry that I was not able to make it to each and every community, I would have liked to have met and spoke with so many of you.  The time and resources just did not allow all that I had planned.  Some of you will have noticed my signs and some of you will not.  Some of my signs have been stolen, such a dirty thing that one or a member of their campaign must resort to such tactics.  So that you all know, I have not forgotten about any one citizen in this county or a single community and will not.  YO

Points that I would like you to consider!

To all my fellow citizens, I would really appreciate your votes. I know for some of you it will be hard to do because I am a Republican candidate or because the news says that I don't have the experience.  But just keep in mind that we are all fellow Americans and  that I am running because I care, I know that no matter what the news or others say that I can make a difference in the county.  I am capable of managing the budget and the whole department and it's operations.  Something that the news and others did not say is that no sheriff does every single thing that needs to be done by their self, that is why there is an administrative team and a staff!

New Face for a New Future....

If you are tired of the same ole political game when it comes to your law enforcement personnel, Vote for Dwayne. A real person, not a politician, for Sheriff. We know the times are ever changing, and the time for a new plan, for a new generation, with a new dream, for a new future is NOW!!!!.
We cannot afford more of the same politics and business as usual when it comes to our safety and security. We pay to have ourselves protected, let's get someone in there who will remember that!!!!
Real Change for a New and Brighter Future.
The future has already begun!!!

Augmenting the Sheriff's Department

Reserves are a resource that I believe have been overlooked by many law enforcement agencies.  With the economy in the condition that it has been in, times have been hard for not only citizens but local governments as well.  Some law enforcement agencies in the United States have realized just how great of an asset these reserve divisions are.  They can utilize reserves to partner up with regular officers, take reports and conduct special patrols as well as work special event security and traffic control. Utilizing reserves very regularly can be an effective way to help keep the cost of over-time down as well as help increase police presence and reduce response times.  The main purpose of a reserve division is to augment the regular force and to provide additional man power when needed.  Reserves are generally unpaid volunteers who have received law enforcement training.  They can work with regular officers or independently with limited powers, all depending upon that department's policy.

Safety on Campus

I seem to be hearing about problems at Eastern Michigan University from a lot of students as well as residents' of the area.  I would say that there does seem to be some kind of issue there that needs attention.  I must say that we will always have crimes being committed, I believe that it is just a given.  But we very well can do our best to try to reduce the frequency of which they are occurring.  Although EMU has their own police department and security

Community Oriented Policing

Community policing is the most effective method of policing and bringing the police and citizens together to work as a team, helping create a safer and more civil society. Community policing as a philosophy and a working model is very important to the communities as a whole.  It gives the police a means to be teamed up with the citizens of the communities. Together the police and citizens can address the quality of life issues that affect them all where they live and work. The citizens can voice their concerns about crimes that are occurring in their communities and inform the police as to people that they are aware of who are or may be involved in criminal activities as well as affecting the over all quality of life. The citizens and police officers can get to know one another on a personal level that traditional policing doesn't allow the time for. The citizens also have a chance to see and learn that the police officers are genuinely concerned with the criminal activity and quality of life issues in the communities that they service. The police and citizens working together can help to reduce the crime rate and bring criminals to justice as well as help them to achieve a common goal, bettering the quality of life. The police and citizens can help one another to identify the disadvantages of community policing so that the changes can be made to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the police department as a whole. The citizens can also help the police to see who they are leaving out of the efforts to improve the quality of life, expressing their concerns about the children and teens in the communities who are many times over looked as being assets to the team. The police and citizens can brainstorm and network to create programs designed to help the youths of the communities to resist violence and drugs, programs that will keep many of the youths off of the streets committing or becoming victims of criminal activity. One of the overall advantages of community policing is that either some of the citizens as well as some of the police officers many times know business owners or even other sources that can help to provide private funding, helping start and continue youth based programs to help in mentoring and keeping the youths out of harm and trouble. For all of the disadvantages that there may be in community policing, the advantages and benefits of the philosophy far out weigh them. This is because as a team the police and citizens can work together to turn the disadvantages around and cover the gaps that are discovered. Police officers who work for a department that is involved in community policing have a definite advantage over officers who work for a department that is involved in traditional policing, especially if they are working in the communities where they live because they will be able to have already laid the ground work with their neighbors. They will already be known by their neighbors who most likely know many more citizens in the communities. The citizens that they know will be able to be made aware that the officers are concerned about the quality of life in the communities and are also living where they patrol. The citizens in these communities will also have the advantage of knowing the officers and knowing that they can feel free to express their concerns as well as report criminal activity. Knowing that the issues will be addressed even if no action can be legally taken.
